This is probably the only intervention in orthodontics where we somehow feel like doctors. Although with the help of surgeons, but still we give patients a new look.
Orthognathic surgery is used for patients over 18 years old (required after growth stops). Usually this treatment takes place in three stages:
- 1 – pre-procedure preparation (also called decompensation),
- 2 – the procedure itself
- 3 – post-procedure correction.
The role of the orthodontist in this case is to correct the dentition, analyze the condition of the teeth and jaws, determine the movement and final position of the jaws. I do not know, of course, to whom as, but for me this area of orthodontics was and will be my favorite.
