Removable devices are the most convenient and simple devices in orthodontics.
They are mainly used for children with a cross bite, closing of diastemas, slow expansion of the upper jaw, distalization of the first molar, devices with a flap for the tongue with an open bite, etc.
The main advantage of removable devices is that they are easily removed and put on, thereby not complicating oral hygiene and the patient easily adapts to the device. But this is also a disadvantage, since the result of treatment depends entirely on the patient's cooperation.
For adult patients removable devices are used very rarely, with minimal problems. Removable devices are not used in complex treatments for the reason that they exert a pinpoint, primitive pressure on the teeth in one direction. I must remind you that removable devices, like teeth, need to be cleaned. After each brushing of the teeth, the patient should also clean his device as thoroughly.
