To Prevent, Not Just Correct: Soft Early Intervention Systems
The best treatment is the one that was avoided. The philosophy of early orthodontic intervention is precisely this: not to wait for a problem to develop, but to eliminate its cause at the earliest stage. For this, we use special soft systems—myofunctional trainers, which are ideal for children aged 5-10.
What are soft systems and why are they needed?
These are flexible silicone trays (trainers) that work not on the teeth, but on muscle function. Their task is to eliminate the harmful habits that are the root cause of most orthodontic problems:
-
Mouth breathing.
-
Incorrect tongue position.
-
Infantile swallowing pattern.
-
Thumb sucking.
By normalizing muscle function, we create the conditions for the natural, harmonious growth of the jaws and prevent tooth crowding in the future.
How to know if a child needs early intervention?
The first visit to an orthodontist at 6-7 years old is the ideal time for diagnosis. But you can also notice warning signs yourself: your child's mouth is often slightly open, they suck their thumb after the age of 4-5, or you see that the lower teeth are starting to grow in crookedly. This is a direct reason for a consultation.
How does such treatment proceed?
The treatment is simple but requires discipline. The child wears the soft tray for 1-2 hours during the day and all night. This "trains" their muscles, teaching them to work correctly. The average duration of such treatment is from 6 to 18 months. We often supplement it with special exercises (myogymnastics) to reinforce the result.
